Speaker Mojisola Meranda presided over plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday
Ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who earlier attended a stakeholders meeting at the assembly complex was absent at the Monday sitting, as at the time of filing this report,
Following the crisis rocking the Assembly, a meeting involving leaders of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, including Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, was held on Monday.
The Attorney General of Lagos State, Lawal Pedro, was also at the meeting which was expected to resolve the leadership crisis at the Assembly.
Obasa had earlier arrived around 1:30pm to join the lawmakers at the meeting held under a tent.
He later left the meeting after a separate chat with the state AG, Ojelabi and other party stakeholders.
While the outcome of the party’s resolution on the leadership crisis involving Meranda and Obasais yet uncertain, more of the lawmakers have passed a vote of confidence in Miranda.
Meranda, a former Deputy Speaker was voted by over 30 members of the Assembly to take over as the Speaker on January 13 when the House removed Obasa as speaker.
Controversy has trailed the development with Obasa contesting his removal while stating he remains the Speaker of the Assembly.
On Thursday, Obasa, with the aid of security operatives, stormed the Assembly complex, reportedly broke the locks of the Speaker’s office and chambers and presided over a four-man plenary.
With the controversy, the House is presumably broken into two factions, a 36-man faction led by Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, and the four-man faction led by Obasa that sat last Thursday.
It was reported that police escorts assigned to Meranda were withdrawn. Security personnel guarding the Assembly complex were also reportedly redeployed and replaced last Monday.
