Security agencies have begun an intensive search-and-rescue operation after 25 students were abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to reports, terrorists stormed the school in the early hours of Monday, breaching its perimeter and whisking away the students. Sahara Reporters noted that the attackers killed a staff member during the raid, while a security guard was injured. The assault reportedly occurred at approximately 5:52 a.m.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident on its official WhatsApp channel, stating that police tactical teams stationed at the school engaged the gunmen in a shootout but were unable to prevent the abduction.
The statement read:
“On 17 November 2025, at about 0400hrs, a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons stormed Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, shooting sporadically. The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled the school fence and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination. One Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while Ali Shehu sustained an injury to his right hand.”
Following the attack, additional police tactical units, military personnel and local vigilantes were deployed to comb surrounding forests and suspected bandit routes in an attempt to locate the victims and apprehend the attackers.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, assured residents that the command remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of ongoing security operations.
The incident follows a disturbing pattern of attacks on schools across the region, underscoring persistent security challenges despite increased military and police deployments.
